EN I think it is agreed by all parties that this prodigious number of children in the arms, or on the backs, or at the heels of their mothers, and frequently of their fathers, is in the present deplorable state of the kingdom a very great additional grievance; and, therefore, whoever could find out a fair, cheap, and easy method of making these children sound, useful members of the commonwealth, would deserve so well of the public as to have his statue set up for a preserver of the nation.
GL Creo que é unha opinión xeneralizada que esta morea de nenos nos brazos, nas costas ou ós pés das súas nais, e a miúdo nos dos seus pais, é unha inxustiza máis deste reino que actualmente se atopa nun estado lamentable e, polo tanto, quen puidese atopar un método xusto, barato e doado para que estes nenos sexan sans e membros útiles da comunidade merecería tanto o recoñecemento por parte do Estado como que se lle fixese unha escultura por ser un protector da nación.
