patina

- noun
- pátina

EN The publication in July 1998 of a revised edition of a book by the British expert William St. Clair (Lord Elgin and the Marbles, Oxford University Press, first edition 1967) set the ball rolling again, since its author claims to have proof that in 1937 British Museum curators caused irreparable damage to the surface of the marbles, by scrubbing and scraping them in order to return them to what they believed to be their original colour, namely white, removing forever the honey-coloured patina that had adorned them since Antiquity.
GL A publicación, o pasado xullo, dunha edición actualizada dun libro do especialista británico William St Clair (Lord Elgin and the Marbles, publicado por primeira vez en 1967), fixo rexurdi-la polémica.
