EN In no one of the great philosophical questions which the ascent of mathematics has from time to time brought up above the horizon of our speculative view, has any mathematician who was merely such (however eminent) had depth of intellect adequate to its solution: without insisting on the absurdities published by mathematicians, on the philosophy of the infinite, since that notion was introduced into mathematics; or on the fruitless attempts of all but a metaphysician to settle the strife between the conflicting modes of valuing living forces.
GL En ningunha das grandes cuestións filosóficas que o ascenso das matemáticas ten de cando en vez feito aflorar no horizonte da nosa visión especulativa tivo un matemático que fose simplemente tal (malia ser eminente) profundidade de intelecto adecuada para a súa solución, sen insistir nos absurdos que publicaron matemáticos sobre a filosofía do infinito, dende que esa noción se introduciu nas matemáticas, ou nos intentos sen froito dun case metafísico para soluciona-la loita entre os modos conflictivos de avaliar forzas vivas.
