disinfecting
adjective
desinfectante
EN A charm is lent to the humblest thatched and smoky cabin when of a winter evening the family sits on rough stools or escaños (great benches of chestnut-wood with a high back, which is sometimes made so that it can be brought forward to serve as a table) round the hearth (lareira) heaped high with tallos (logs) or terrones of glowing turf, in the ashes of which potatoes and chestnuts are roasted, while tales of wolves and witchcraft and spirits, with proverbs and snatches of song, speed the hours away and the encircling smoke is a disinfecting incense.
