Descrición:

This project aims to analyse Galician from a comparative perspective, integrating it into its geolinguistic framework and exploring its relations with the surrounding languages. Until now, the study of Galician has prioritised an internal view, with little attention to its interaction with other varieties, except for contact with Castilian. This could be due to the initial need to describe a language little known in romanistics and to the search for internal explanations for certain features that differentiate it from Portuguese or bring it closer to Castilian. However, an emerging approach in Ibero-Romance studies considers the shared features between dialectal varieties, drawing on developments in contact linguistics. This project uses unpublished data from the Atlas Lingüístico de la Península Ibérica (ALPI) to study the features preserved or acquired by Galician, identifying its linguistic and cultural convergences, and better understanding its historical evolution from Latin to present-day Galician.
