Montserrat Recalde Fernández

I have a BA degree in Spanish Philology (1992) and have been a lecturer in the Department of Spanish Language and Literature, Literary Theory and General Linguistics at the University of Santiago de Compostela since 1997. I obtained my PhD in 2022 on linguistic attitudes and ideologies around gheada and seseo.

My research is oriented towards sociolinguistics and discourse analysis, especially the study of linguistic attitudes and ideologies, language contact and folk linguistics.

I participated in the Sociolinguistic Chart of Galicia project of the Seminar on Sociolinguistics of the Galician Royal Academy, coordinated by Mauro Fernández and Modesto Rodríguez. As a result of this research, I am co-author of the monographs Lengua inicial e competencia lingüística en Galicia (1994), Usos lingüísticos en Galicia (1995) and Actitudes lingüísticas en Galicia (1995). I have also participated in the Sociolinguistic Project of the Spanish of Spain and America (PRESEEA) (2007-2015), coordinated by Francisco Moreno, and in the ESLORA1, ESLORA, ESLORA+ and ESLORA++ projects for the creation of a corpus of Galician oral Spanish (https://eslora.usc.es/), directed by Guillermo Rojo and Victoria Vázquez.
