Throughout her life she maintained a fervent commitment to learning and never stopped studying.

Traxectoria profesional / Career description_eng

Biderman graduated in Neo-Latin Letters from the Universidade de São Paulo in 1957; he obtained his PhD in Philology and Portuguese Language from the same university in 1969 and an academic habilitation ("livre-docência") in 1974. He carried out post-doctoral studies at several foreign universities, including Stanford University, New York University, Birmingham University, Oxford University, Université de Lorraine, Università di Pisa, Universidade de Lisboa and Universitat Pompeu Fabra. She began her professional career in France as a lecturer at the Université de Strasbourg I (1963-1965). In 1977 she was already a full professor at the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (Unesp), specifically at the Faculty of Sciences and Letters of Araraquara, Department of Linguistics, where she remained until her death. She was also a visiting lecturer at several national and international universities. She also held research positions at the Fundação de Amparo à Pescuda do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP), the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnolóxico (CNPq) and the Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pescuda em Letras e Lingüística (ANPOLL). Biderman had extensive experience in linguistics, especially in lexicology, lexicography and terminology. She published numerous articles and books, including four dictionaries, and participated in several international conferences where she presented numerous scientific papers. She directed and supervised several master's theses and doctoral dissertations. She devoted her whole life to the study of the lexicon, in particular the lexicon of Portuguese. In addition, she carried out in-depth research on the lexicon of other Romance languages such as French, Spanish and Italian, as well as English. She specialised in lexicography, both in synchronic and diachronic description. However, she also carried out theoretical studies on the lexicon, especially with regard to lexical categorisation, its relations to cognition and its structuring. As a result of these studies, she also specialised in Corpus Linguistics and Natural Language Processing (Computational Linguistics). Before her death, Biderman was working on one of her greatest projects: the elaboration of the “Dicionário Histórico do Português do Brasil - séculos XVI, XVII e XVIII” (CNPq). This project was the winner of the contest “Institutos do Milenio do CNPq” in 2005. After her decease, the current coordinator of the project, his disciple and lexicographer Clotilde de Almeida Azevedo Murakawawas commissioned to publish the work in digital format in 2021 with more than 1,400 entries.
