Ingeborg Geyer, née Schönhuber

Ingeborg Geyer graduated (1968-1976) in German and English Philology from the Universität Wien (University of Vienna). In 1976 she obtained her doctorate with a summa cum laude with a thesis entitled Die deutsche Mundart von Tischelwang (Timau) in Karnien (Oberitalien) (The German dialect of Tischelwang (Timau) in Carnia (Upper Italy)). Parallel to her studies, she started working (1972) as a research assistant at the current Institut für Österreichische Dialekt- und Namenlexika (Institute for Austrian Encyclopaedias of Dialects and Names, DI-NAMLEX) of the Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften (Austrian Academy of Sciences, ÖAW). From 1973 to the present day, she has been a researcher at the same institute. She has held various positions, including that of deputy director of DINAMLEX, editor (to date) of the Wörterbuch der bairischen Mundarten in Österreich (Dictionary of Bavarian Dialects in Austria, WBÖ) and director (to date) of DINAMLEX. In addition, she is a member of the Advisory Board of the Arbeitskreis der Wiener Altgermanisten (Working Circle of Old Viennese Germanists), chairwoman of the Verein der Freunde der im Mittelalter von Österreich aus besiedelten Sprachinseln (Association of Friends of the Languages Settled in Austria in the Middle Ages), consultant to the Consorzio Universitario Friuli (Friuli University Consortium), member of the wissenschaftl. Beirat des Österreichischen Volksliedwerkes (Scientific Advisory Board of the Austrian Folk Song Association), examiner for UNESCO - Austria and editor of Beiträge zur Sprachinselforschung (Contributions to Language Island Research).

On her own LinkedIn profile, Ingeborg Geyer introduces herself as a lexicographer and human rights defender. She has been a member of the ZONTA Club of Vienna since 1985, she has been a member of its Board of Directors as well as of the International Nominating Committee and has been representing ZONTA at the UN in Vienna since 2002. Between 2018 and 2020, she chaired ZONTA's International Committee at the UN worldwide.
