Concepción Maldonado holds a PhD from the Complutense University of Madrid and developed her career first as lecturer at the San Pablo CEU University (1994-2009). From 1989 to 2018, she held the position of Director of the Department of Lexicography at Ediciones SM (Spain). She currently teaches at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She researches in the field of lexicography covering a wide scope of areas of interest: commercial lexicography and editorial work, didactic dictionaries, dictionaries and their use, the structure of lexicographic resources, printed and digital lexicography, among others. She was the editor in chief of more than 100 projects in Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, Latin, among others. In lexicography, she worked on joint projects with international institutions: the EFE News Agency, the Chilean Academy of Language, the Puerto Rican Academy of Language, the Dominican Academy of Language or the Cuban Academy of Language. She has co-edited international projects with global companies such as Hachette (France), Piemme and Hoepli (Italy), Cambridge (United Kingdom), Langenscheidt (Germany), etc. She collaborates regularly with the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language in the School of Spanish lexicography.

Some of her projects and collaborative works have received international awards: ● the dictionary series IMAGINARIO (1992) won the Bronze Medal at the WorldDidac in 1993. ● the Descriptive grammar of the Spanish language (Bosque/Demonte, 1999, eds., Espasa Calpe), in which she collaborated with a chapter about direct and indirect speech was distinguished with the European Logos Prize (2000). In 2008 she was distinguished as honorary member of the Bolivian Institute of lexicography and later, in 2017, she was awarded by the Centre for Applied Linguistics of Santiago de Cuba for her contributions to linguistics. It is worth mentioning that the foreword of the Clave dictionary (1997) was written by the Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez. She is the current vice-president of the Spanish Association of Lexicographic Studies (AELex) and since 2018 she has been a member of the publishing committee and editorial board of the journal Archiletras (https://www.archiletras.com/), where she collaborates with dissemination texts on language and the relationship between language and new technologies.
