Traxectoria profesional / Career description_eng

Between 1943 and 1947, Roza Pavlovna pursued her studies at the Chelyabinsk State Pedagogical Institute. In 1952, she completed her postgraduate studies and successfully defended her thesis to earn the degree of Candidate of Philological Sciences at the present-day Institute of the Russian Language, named after V.V. Vinogradov. Commencing in 1952, she started her tenure in the Card File of the Dictionary Department at the Institute of Linguistic Research of the USSR, known as "ЛО ИЯ АН СССР," and presently as "ИЛИ РАН." From 1968 to 2011, she held the position of the head of the Dictionary Department's Filing Cabinet, during which time she significantly elevated the standards of filing procedures to a new, systematic, and scientifically advanced level. This era saw the creation of comprehensive academic dictionaries of the Russian language based on the extensive card index of the Dictionary Department. Numerous articles and monographs were authored during this period. The Dictionary Card Index group made substantial contributions to theoretical and practical aspects of card index dictionary compilation and the automation of card index and dictionary tasks. Recognizing the pressing need for modern lexicographical methods, in the early 1980s, Pavlovna played a pioneering role in the introduction of automation in dictionary work at the Leningrad Academic School of Lexicography. This innovation is reflected in her numerous articles and the development of new types of reference materials pertaining to the Russian language. Rosa’s endeavors in defining word boundaries in text processing led to the identification of syntactically conditioned elements known as word equivalents, compound function words, and modal units—areas that had hitherto been overlooked by domestic lexicographers. Over several decades, Pavlovna actively participated in the Academic Councils of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ИЛИ РАН), Tver State University, and A.I. Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University. She effectively supervised the work of graduate students, interns, applicants, and students. Moreover, she provided consistent guidance and consultations to both Russian and international experts in the realms of Russian grammar, lexicology, and lexicography. Her contributions extended to active involvement in the institute's public affairs.

Publicacións relevantes e contexto sociocultural / Relevant publications and socio-cultural background_eng

Rosa authored several significant dictionaries, including the following titles: "Словарь сочетаний, эквивалентных слову" [Dictionary of Word Combinations Equivalent to a Word] (Moscow, 1983), "Словарь эквивалентов слова" [Dictionary of Word Equivalents] (Moscow, 1991), and "Толковый словарь сочетаний, эквивалентных слову" [Explanatory Dictionary of Word Combinations Equivalent to a Word] (Moscow, 2003). These works have earned a prominent place in Russian lexicography and continue to be highly sought after. During those years, Russian academic lexicography was deeply engrossed in the history of the Large Dictionary file, established by Ya.K. Groth in 1886. It withstood the challenging circumstances of the 20th century, eventually giving rise to Russian academic explanatory lexicography. An exemplar of this legacy is Rosa’s monograph "Сокровищница русского слова" [The Treasury of the Russian Word] (St. Petersburg, 2003). Rosa Pavlovna will undoubtedly remain a renowned figure in the annals of 20th century Russian linguistics. She co-authored the "Словарь современного русского литературного языка" [Dictionary of Contemporary Russian Literary Language] and served as the editor of its eleventh volume. She also authored the "Словарь русского языка" [Dictionary of the Russian Language] in four volumes. Collaborating with her colleagues, she compiled the "Школьный словарь устаревших слов по произведениям русских писателей XVIII–XIX вв." [School Dictionary of Obsolete Words from the Works of Russian Writers of the 18th and 19th Centuries] (Moscow, 1996), which saw multiple editions, and a reference dictionary titled "Редкие слова в произведениях авторов XIX века" [Rare Words in the Works of 19th-Century Authors] (Moscow, 1997). The field of lexicography has yet to replicate the unique experience of the "Сводный словарь современной русской лексики" [Unified Dictionary of Contemporary Russian Vocabulary] (Moscow, 1991), which, during the pre-Internet era, provided valuable assistance to linguists in establishing word usages in major 20th-century dictionaries.
