EN I remember once, that happening to spend an autumn in Ilfracombe, on the west coast of Devonshire, I found all the young ladies whom I knew, busily employed on the study of marine botany: on the opposite shore of the channel, in all the South Welsh ports of Tenby, &c., they were no less busy upon conchology; in neither case from any previous love of the science, but simply availing themselves of their local advantages.
GL Acórdame unha vez que, ocorréndome pasar un outono en Ilfracombe, na costa oeste de Devonshire, atopei a tódalas mozas que coñecía ocupadas laboriosamente no estudio da botánica marítima. Na costa oposta do canal, en tódolos portos do Sur de Gales, Tenby, etc., non estaban menos ocupados na concoloxía. En ningún dos casos era a causa dun amor previo pola ciencia, senón simplemente dispoñendo das súas vantaxes locais.
