EN There are complaints of heavy taxation, of the unfairness of its incidence, especially in the question of the consumos, through the favouritism of the cacique (the local political "boss"), of the annoyance of the foros; but foros, consumos and caciques are all tending to disappear or to become less burdensome; and when one thinks of the intrigues and rivalry prevailing locally --may one not hear the inhabitants of one village decry the inhabitants, the vines, nay, the very cabbages of its neighbour?-- one trembles to think what might happen were the administration wholly local; indeed the caciquil excesses are themselves a warning.
GL Hai queixas polos fortes impostos e pola inxustiza dos mesmos, especialmente no que se refire ós consumos, debido ó favoritismo do cacique (o xefe político local), e á carga dos foros. Pero tanto os foros coma os consumos e os caciques tenden a desaparecer ou a facerse menos gravosos. Cando se matina nas intrigas e na rivalidade que predominan localmente --¿pode alguén non oí-los habitantes dunha vila critica-los habitantes, as viñas, mellor dito, mesmo as cabazas do seu veciño?-- , trémese ó pensar que sucedería se a administración fose local na súa totalidade; desde logo os excesos caciquís son por si mesmos un aviso.
